World No. 11 Among Commenters In Kiwi Alex Hunt’s Viral Tennis Video

New Zealand’s Alex Hunt is no stranger to his tennis skills drawing attention, but even he has been taken aback by the response to his latest video.

Titled “Born with 1 arm and this is how I serve”, the video shows a series of serves Hunt hit during a professional tournament earlier this year in China on clay. The video has already racked up more than one million views, having been posted less than a day ago.

Hunt’s serve, with its vicious kick and impeccable timing, is unique because he was born with one arm and does not play with a prosthetic.

The comments have included plenty of praise from coaches, supporters and players around the world. Most notably, WTA World No. 11 Marta Kostyuk commented: “Wow!!! So good!!!”

Which has proven to be true, with Hunt the reigning Para-Standing Singles World Champion, having held the title for the past three years.

Para-Standing tennis is for people with physical disabilities who play without using a wheelchair. The format has grown in interest and popularity in recent years, especially with annual world championships and increased exposure at major tournaments including the Australian Open and US Open.

Hunt will head to the US Open later this month to take part in an invitational Para-Standing event.

Hunt expressed his gratitude to those who have been in contact since the video went viral, posting to his story:

“Thanks to everyone for all the amazing messages and for following along. 1 million views is crazy!”

Inspiring the next generation of Para-Standing players has always driven Hunt to continue what he does, and one message he received since the video went viral particularly resonated with him.

Sharing the message on his story, Hunt wrote: “This is what I live for.”

The message read:

“We love you Alex! Not sure if you remember my son, he just turned 14. He was sitting here with me watching your video and asked me “Since I was born the same way as Mr. Alex, can I give tennis a go?” I told him, "Of course, you can do anything your heart desires.”
