Venus and Puetz in second round doubles action at Roland Garros

Friday, 27 May 2022

Michael Venus and his German partner Tim Puetz headline New Zealand interest on day six at the French tennis Open in Paris tonight.

The 7th seeds are first on court 14 against the French pair of Benjamin Bonzi and Arthur Rinderknech for a place in the third round.

Venus is expecting a tricky encounter knowing the French pair will be fired up in front of their home fans.

“Yeah, I played Bonzi here last year actually in the first round, he’s around the top 50 in the world in singles and is a good player and Rinderknech is also in the top 100 in singles. These guys playing at home will be fired up with the home crowd so it’s going to be a tough match.” Venus said.

The Kiwi is wrapped with the way he and Puetz have gelled together after the German missed most of the clay court season with an ankle injury suffered at the Monte Carlo Masters.

“You never know quite what's going to happen. But it was great being back on court with him and some of the things we've been working on in practice we did well in the first round. We are both clear what we are trying to do individually and as a team.”

Erin Routliffe has a day off doubles but lines up in the mixed doubles with Uruguay’s Ariel Behar. They take on the French pair of Clara Burel and Hugo Gaston.
