Top day for New Zealanders at ITF US $15,000 tournament in Wellington

New Zealand players have shone on day two of the ITF World Tour event in Wellington.

Men’s top seed Ajeet Rai is through to the second round after a 6-3 6-4 win over Aussie Jack Delaney.  Rai will next face Finn Reynolds who battled to a 5-7 6-4 6-4 win over Aussie qualifier Tai Sach.  Wildcard Corban Crowther fought hard to beat Aussie qualifier Luke Sorenson 6-4 2-6 6-1. Crowther will next face Japanese 5th seed Daisuke Sumizawa who defeated Kiwi qualifier Rob Reynolds 4-6 7-5 6-1.

The result of the day has been teenager Jack Loutit’s victory over Australian second seed Thomas Fancutt who had to retire in the third set. Loutit was leading 7-6 (3) 5-7 3-1 at the time. He will next face Aussie Derek Pham for a place in the quarter finals.

4th seed Kiranpal Pannu impressed with a 6-1 6-3 win over Aussie Matthew Woerndle while Isaac Becroft won the battle of the Kiwis 6-4 6-2 over wildcard Reece Falck and wildcard George Stoupe has beaten qualifier Alexander Klintcharov 6-3 6-0.

In women’s singles action second seed Paige Hourigan has dug deep to defeat German qualifier Denise Torrealba 6-3 5-7 6-4. Hourigan will play wildcard Kyna Decruy who defeated Aussie Eva Harris 6-1 6-1.
