Contrasting fortunes for Michael Venus and Erin Routliffe in ATP and WTA tournaments in Stuttgart and Nottingham respectively.

Venus and his German partner Tim Puetz have won their opening match of the grass court season, beating Portugal’s Francisco Cabral and Bosnia Herzegovina’s Tomislav Brkic 6-2 7-6 (5) in the first round in Stuttgart.

Venus and Puetz are the top seeds at the tournament.

But Erin Routliffe and Alicja Rosolska have lost in the first round of the Nottingham Open. They have been beaten 6-1 7-5 by third seeds Shuko Aoyama from Japan and Taiwan’s Chan Hao-Ching whom they lost to in the quarter finals in Stuttgart early in the clay court season.
