Michael Venus Nikola Mektic reach Miami quarterfinals

Sunday, 23 March 2025

Michael Venus and Nikola Mektic are through to the quarterfinals at the Miami Open, following their 6-3 6-3 win over Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin on Sunday (Monday NZ time).

It was a solid victory from the tournament’s No 5 seeds and they set the tone early with a break in the opening game, adding another when their opponents served at 2-5.

Venus and Mektic had another break in the fourth game of the next set and were able to hold onto that advantage to close out the match.

In the quarterfinals Venus and Mektic will play the winners of the match between Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori against Christian Harrison and Evan King.

Venus and Mektic’s run in Miami is the first time they’ve won back to back matches at a tournament since clinching the title at the ASB Classic in January.

They have lost a few tight matches over that period, but their wins in Florida hint that the two are getting into good form just before the start of the clay court season.
