Lulu Sun reaches quarterfinals in China

Lulu Sun has cruised into the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Jingshan, China.
In her second round match on Thursday, Sun defeated the unranked Wu Ru 6-3 6-0.
Sun has lost just eight games on her way to the quarterfinals in Jingshan and this was another performance where she was able to dominate with her serve.
Over the match, which lasted just 57 minutes, the Kiwi No 1 won 88% of the points when she got her first serve in and also won 62% of the points on her second serve.
The 24-year-old Sun is attempting to improve her world ranking after losing a significant amount of points from reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals and the final in Monterrey in 2024.
She will need to be at around 100, to secure a place in the main draw at the Australian Open in January.
Her two wins this week in China should lift her up from 145 to around 140, but in the form she’s been in over the past few months it’s a goal that is certainly achievable.
In the quarterfinals, Sun will play against the 20-year-old Elena Pridankina from Russia, who is ranked 202 in the world.
