First Ever Deliverers Course for Kura Teachers

Thursday, 27 May 2021

Last week we hosted the first ever Tennis Hot Shots/Cardio Tennis deliverers course for kura teachers at Kaikohe Intermediate school. Fourteen schools were represented along with 34 participants. It was a rewarding experience watching the teachers/kaimahi get out there and play, plan, talk about constraints, and how best to implement National Programmes within the school curriculum.

The schools involved:

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe

Kaikohe West School

Kaikohe East School

Kaikohe Christian School

Horeke School

Mangamuka School

Kaikohe Intermediate

Te Kura o Waikare

Te Kohanga Reo o Waikare

Te Kura o Matihetihe

Opononi Area School

Broadwood Area School

Omanaia Area School

Rawene Area School

The impact:

  • There were 14 kura who attended, 95-100% of all enrolled children are Māori
  • These kura are located in some of the most deprived and poverty-stricken areas (healthcare, housing) in the Northland region
  • All kura that attended teach in either bilingual or full immersion Te Reo Māori
  • In addition, the total combined roll from these kura will equal to over 2000 kids having the opportunity to play tennis this year

We are grateful to all those involved for the opportunity to give Northland communities a chance to play and learn the game of tennis.
