Daniell bows out in Melbourne quarter finals

Marcus Daniell and his American partner Denis Kudla have narrowly missed making the semi-finals at the ATP 250 tournament in Melbourne.

The unseeded duo have been beaten by Lithuania’s Ricardas Berankis and Ukraine’s Denys Molchanov 2-8 7-6 (5) 10-8 in the quarter finals. Daniell and Kudla dominated the opening set and had chances to break at 4-4 in the second but couldn’t get over the line and the match was decided in a match tie break. They led the first to 10-point breaker 8-5 before losing the next five points to lose the match.
Daniell was originally scheduled to play the Australian Open swing with Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner, but he was ruled out with a knee injury.
