refresh your coaching skills and obtain an internationally recognized qualification

Monday, 20 February 2023

At Tennis New Zealand, we understand that tennis coaches with historical qualifications and international qualifications, not recognised by the ITF, have previously gained skills and knowledge through a range of work, study, life, and other experiences.

Tennis NZ is providing coaches the opportunity to refresh their coaching skills and obtain an internationally recognized qualification through Recognition of Current Competence (RCC).

This upgrade of qualifications will ensure these coaches are:

  • Listed on the upcoming Professional Coach Register
  • Trained to a satisfactory level in safeguarding, ethical obligations, and current coaching practices
  • Capable of meeting the TNZ national coach selection criteria

A new Skills Refresh course will be offered to coaches who hold a historical TCNZ qualification or an international qualification not recognized by the ITF. The 4-day course is designed to complement coaches’ current knowledge and provide the required skills to comfortably complete the ITF Level 1 associated RCC assessment tasks.

The Coach Skills Refresh initiative is a part of creating a Safe Tennis environment and ensuring the delivery standard of our national programmes.

Coaches will be supported to achieve competent grade on all ten assessment tasks and will gain confidence to develop and mentor coaches, with junior development pathways.

Assessment tasks associated are competency based. This provides participants with the ability to reflect, refine, and resubmit tasks if they do not achieve a competent grade on the first attempt.
